Measure website performance using google webmaster tools

You might think about your website performance. Website performance indicates web page loading time for your site. In other words it is speed of your site, how fast is your web site. In fact the goal of any website is minimize the loading time for every page because lower loading time leads to increased user retention and activity, higher revenue and lower costs.

In this post I will discuss how we can measure the speed of individual webpage of our website and page speed tool using google webmaster tools.

Step 01: The first thing you need is to setup google webmaster tools for your site and verify your site. In the post Setup Google Webmaster Tools it is discussed about how we can setup webmaster tools for a blog or for a site.

Step 02:
- Log in to your webmaster tools.
- List of verified site you have will appeared. If you have many sites click on the sites that you want to measure page speed.

Step 03: You will enter into the Dashboard. Click on Labs from left menu and select Site Performance. Left menu will look like below.

Step 04: In the right side, you will see various suggestions like average load time, page speed suggestion along with performance overview.
Following is an example for my blog.

Performance overview

On average, pages in your site take 6.4 seconds to load (updated on Dec 31, 2009). This is slower than 82% of sites. The chart below shows how your site's average page load time has changed over the last few months. For your reference, it also shows the 20th percentile value across all sites, separating slow and fast load times.

Example pages
These are some example pages from your site and the time that they take to load in a browser (in seconds).

Page Speed suggestions

These are some example pages from your site and some suggestions on how to optimize them, based on the Page Speed tool.

Minimize DNS lookups
unzipped triangleServe resources from a consistent URL
The following resources have identical contents, but are served from different URLs. Serve these resources from a consistent URL to save 1 bytes and 1 requests:
Combine external CSS

Step 05: The next step is to install page speed tool. You can install page speed tool from the window Page Speed Tool. To make page speed tool work you also need to install firebug. You can install firebug from the link https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/versions/1843. After you install page speed tool and firebug open the site/link in browser for which you want to measure page speed.

Step 06: Click on the firefox Tools Menu, select Firebug from the dropdown menu and then select "Open Firebug in New Window". Following image is a snapshot from my windows.

URL not allowed
This url is not allowed for a Sitemap at this location.
Problem detected on: Dec 31, 2009

Cause and Solution of the Error
There many be various reasons for which the errors have occurred.
1) Google has detected some URLs that appear to be at a higher level or different domain than the Sitemap file location. If you receive this error, try to move your Sitemap file to a higher location in your site and after logging to your webmaster tools submit the sitemap again with the specified location. For instance, if your Sitemap is listed under http://www.example.com/mysite/sitemap.xml, the following URLs are not valid for that Sitemap:

i) http://www.example.com/ - because it's at a higher level than the Sitemap
ii)http://www.example.com/yoursite/ - because it's in a directory parallel to the Sitemap

2)You should also check that the urls all begin with the same domain as your Sitemap location. For instance, if your Sitemap is listed under http://www.example.com/sitemap.xml, the following URLs are not valid for that Sitemap:

i) http://www.blogger.com - it's in the blogger.com domain rather than your example.com domain
ii) http://example.com/ - it's missing the initial www as your sitemap file/ the site you submitted in your webmaster tools had initial www.
iii) www.example.com/ - it's missing the protocol (http)
iv) https://www.example.com/ - it's using a different protocol (https rather than http)
So check your sitemap url and consider these factors. Once you follow these rules resubmit the submit url again and it should work.

If you have blogger account and you see you get above message then sign in to your blogger dashboard. Click on Settings and then click on Site Feed under Settings tab. Check the Post Feed Redirect URL. If you see your Post Feed Redirect URL is different from the sitemap url submitted to google webmaster tools then error will occur. You simply remove any URLs from the box and click "Save Settings". Just like following image.

Once you are done resubmit your sitemap in google webmaster tools.

Paypal Support in Bangladesh

Note that if you like to pay money through paypal then I will give you exchange rate 72 taka per dollar. And if you like to get cash from me then I will give you exchange rate 62 taka per dollar with some conditions.

If you have a question in your mind about "Does paypal support in Bangladesh?" or in fact the correct question is "Does Bangladesh support paypal"? Whatever the question is, the answer is a big no. Don't be scared. If you want to get money from online I can help you to get your money.

Paypal does not support Bangladesh, Bangladesh does not support paypal. You have questions why you should use paypal as an online system? You have alertpay, moneybookers etc. But PayPal is the safer, easier way to pay and get paid online. The service allows anyone to pay in any way they prefer, including through credit cards, bank accounts, buyer credit or account balances, without sharing financial information. Also it has several features that others are lacking at the moment.

As paypal is not allowed in Bangladesh, so it is a very big problem for the freelancers as well as for other individuals in Bangladesh who want to send and receive money through paypal. If you are a freelancer you should know how much pain it is. To get your money, the freelancing site will send you a check in your address(takes approximately 20~25 days), you deposit to bank (you need to sign a stamp like 300BDT based on the check amount), bank process and send the check to USA(another 20~25 days), check is cleared and at last your bank account is credited(another 20~25 days). So you see based on the amount of work sometimes it may need like 2~3 months to get your money. There is still an issue, think you have lost the check and then you lost your money.

Now let's come to the point about how I can help you to get money through paypal. I have 4 paypal address, one is personal, one is premier and two related to business account. All are USA bank account, credit card, phone number, address verified.

I have so many clients all over the world and they pay me via paypal and I am happy with that. I can draw money instantly in the same day using Paypal debit card from any ATM booth in Bangladesh. From my International Master Card I can also draw money from any ATM booth. Every month I get about USD 6000$ to USD 7000$. I work with Simense, HP company. Beside my Paypal debit card there are several ways to get my money. At First I need to transferred my paypal money to my US Bank account (I have several business partner who lives in USA and are happy to do this) and then they transfers it again to my Bangladeshi Bank account or they send me via Moneygram or Western union.

I want to mention some very important tips before I let you know about how I can help. These tips really can save your some dollars.

1) Never open an account in paypal with your name and mention your country as another country. If you do so you lost all the money that is accumulated in your paypal account.

2) Never start sending or receiving money through any online payment system (paypal or moneybookers or alertpay) until you verify your account.

3) If you ever open an account with wrong country and wrong address and your account get limited. Don't try to withdraw that amount. You will never be able to draw that amount.

4) Don't accept paypal payment from an unverified user as well as without any good information about the payments.

Well, here I am saying how I can help you -
- You send me money to my paypal email address.

- While you send me money to my paypal mention words like "I state that service is done and payment will not be refunded." Or use Personal option of paypal and then send me as a gift or Payment Owed.

- After I get money in my paypal account I will pay you instantly inside Bangladesh by contact you directly and send you via courier service.

- Of course I will give you less exchange rate to accommodate my cost and service charge. (Note that bank transfer from USA to Bangladesh costs to $45.)

That's all.

How to stop comment spam on your blog

Comments inside a blog is really awesome features for both blogger as well as for readers. In case of blogs comments are really good source of information and an efficient way of engaging a site's users in discussions. Through it bloggers are notified if they did any mistake in their post and readers are benefited to make the things from clear. Good comments also appear in search engine ranking and thus also increase your blog traffic.

But there are situations where spammers spam this nice feature by comment spamming. Spammers leave comments on blog posts that have nothing to do with the post itself but merely contain multiple links back to the spammer's commercial website. In most cases there may be computer generated programs that do automatic comment spamming rather than by individuals. Whoever do the comment spamming main goal of it is to create links back to spammers' website so that it helps to get their ranking in search engine and also bring traffics to their site. Following image is an example of spam comment.

spam comment viagra

Due to so many comment spamming many bloggers tend to disable comments to their blogs. You can easily disable comment by clicking "Post Options" and then selecting "Don't allow". Another way you can disable all users comment unless the members of the entire blog by,

- Sign in to blogger Dashboard.
- Click on Settings.
- Clik on Comments submenu.
There you will have Who Can Comment? section and then you can choose from,
-- Anyone - includes Anonymous Users
-- Registered Users - includes OpenID
-- Users with Google Accounts
-- Only members of this blog

But that is not a solution if you do blogging. You should take initiative to make the best use of this nice blog commenting feature so that you can avoid those unrelated, gibberish comments. You have to stop spam comments and continue posting good useful comments for your blog.

I have presented some tricks by which we can avoid spam comments for your blog.

1)Enable Comment Moderation and set email when someone comments: The most useful tricks to avoid spam comment is enable comment moderation. Don't publish a comment until you approve it manually. To enable comment moderation,

- Sign in to blogger Dashboard.
- Click on Settings.
- Clik on Comments submenu.
- Under Comment moderation section you have the following options as radio button.
-- Always
-- Only on posts older than .. days
-- Never
You should choose Always radio button. So until you approve comments they will not be published. Whenever someone comments a link will appear on your dashboard when there are comments to review.

If you put your Email address after the Email address textboox then as soon as someone comments inside your blog, blogger will email you at that address when a non-member leaves a comment on your blog. If you keep it you will not receive any emails rather comments link will appear on your dashboard only. Following image is the setting for my blog.
comment moderation

2) Use CAPTCHA to prevent automated comment spamming: CAPTCHA is a distorted series of letters and numbers or images which appear on the page and that you have to type in. This is designed to prove that you are a human and not an automated program program or bot. If Captcha is typed correctly, it will allow you to submit your comment, otherwise it will stop automated comment spamming.

As a blogger owner you can implement captcha from Settings to Comment menu and then under "Show word verification for comments?" section.
Selection radio button Yes will show captcha.
And then it will help to reduce comment spam.
Note that blog authors will not see word verification for comments.
Following image is the setting for my blog,
word verification captcha

3)Disallow anonymous posting?: Many ones prefer to disallow anonymous posting. That is you cannot post comments if you are not
- Registered Users - includes OpenID
- Google accont holders or
- Members of this blog
But I don't prefer this option. My opinion is anonymous should be allowed to post comments still.

4)Specialist Software Intervention: There are some specialist softwares which read the comments and decide whether the comments are spam. One such software is Akismet. Although it was developed for Wordpress, but it has been modified to work with many other types of blog software and so it's worth checking out.
