How to post larger images in blogger

Sometimes you want to post bigger images inside your blog post. But you upload a good resolution image in your blogger post and while posting you specified size as extra large but it even become resized and thus you got poor quality of images.
In order to make a large sized image you simply have to follow following steps.

Step 01: Choose a good resolution image that you want to upload for your blog post. By good resolution I mean any image over resolution 1024 x 768.

Step 02: Check your blog main body width. For my blog it is around 920 px. So the maximum sized of the image can be 920px. But to make the image looks nice, we have to keep some padding to the left and right side of it. As our main body size is 920 px, so make the image width to 900px.

Step 03: Using the compose option you simply click "Insert Image" icon and upload image. If you make it X-large while inserting image you will see by default it is taking 640px width and there is no width and height tag associated with the image. You can manually add an IMG tag too and can insert an image.

Step 04: Now you simply need to add width attribute of the image to your desired size. Here I also removed the anchor tag. My code is like below.

which results,
saint martin bangladesh

You are done now.

However, if the above trick does not work then inside your blogger template after the line
</b:skin>
you need to add following codes:

img {
max-width: 900px;
width: expression(this.width > 900 ? 900: true);
}

Scrolling text effect html code with MARQUEE

With MARQUEE we can add scrolling effect to text. Scrolling effect can be handy way to attract the users but too much using of it can spoil its purpose. Marquee can be used to add special announcement to a site, any special updates or advertisements. Before looking into MARQUEE example let's have a look at the list of attributes that it supports.

1)WIDTH: Tells how wide the marquee is. Can be set by pixel or percentage.

2)HEIGHT: Tells how tall the marquee is. Can be set by pixel or percentage.

3)DIRECTION: In which direction the marquee should scroll. Direction can have four values,

i)direction="left" - which is default.
Example:
<marquee direction="left" width="40%">Welcome to Arju's Blog</marquee>
effect is,

Welcome to Arju's Blog

ii)direction="right" - which indicates that the marquee starts at the left and moves rightwards across the page.
Example:
<marquee direction="right" width="40%">Welcome to Arju's Blog</marquee>
effect is,

Welcome to Arju's Blog

iii)direction="up" - scroll from down to up.
Example:
<marquee direction="up" width="40%">Welcome to Arju's Blog</marquee>
effect is,

Welcome to Arju's Blog

iv)direction="down" - scroll from up to down.
Example:
<marquee direction="down" width="40%">Welcome to Arju's Blog</marquee>
effect is,

Welcome to Arju's Blog

4)BEHAVIOR: How the contents will scroll.
i)BEHAVIOR=SCROLL - which is default, content scroll off the edge of the marquee area, then reappear on the other side.

ii)BEHAVIOR=SLIDE - It indicates that when the leading part content reaches the edge it should stop without scrolling off.
Example:
<marquee direction="left" behavior="slide" width="40%">Welcome to Arju's Blog</marquee>
effect is,

Welcome to Arju's Blog

BEHAVIOR=ALTERNATE - It makes the content bounce back and forth, all of it remaining visible all the time.
Example:
<marquee direction="left" behavior="alternate" width="40%">Welcome to Arju's Blog</marquee>
effect is,

Welcome to Arju's Blog

5)SCROLLDELAY: It sets the speed of scrolling. It sets amount of delay in milliseconds. By default it's value is 85 which means it displays the content, then delays 85 milliseconds and then displaying the content again in a new position.
If we want scrolling speed half a second then set SCROLLDELAY=500.
Example:
<marquee direction="left" SCROLLDELAY=500 width="40%">Welcome to Arju's Blog</marquee>
effect is,

Welcome to Arju's Blog

If we want scrolling speed one second then set SCROLLDELAY=1000
Example:
<marquee direction="left" SCROLLDELAY=1000 width="40%">Welcome to Arju's Blog</marquee>
effect is,

Welcome to Arju's Blog

6)SCROLLAMOUNT: It sets the speed of scrolling by setting how far to jump in pixels. A higher value for SCROLLAMOUNT makes the marquee scroll faster. The default value is 6.
An example by making the SCROLLAMOUNT to 18.
Example:
<marquee direction="left" SCROLLAMOUNT =18 width="40%">Welcome to Arju's Blog</marquee>
effect is,

Welcome to Arju's Blog

Example by making the SCROLLAMOUNT to 30.
Example:
<marquee direction="left" SCROLLAMOUNT =30 width="40%">Welcome to Arju's Blog</marquee>
effect is,

Welcome to Arju's Blog

7)LOOP: LOOP sets how many times the marquee should loop. It can have two types of value.
i)INFINITE ii)integer value in terms of number of loops.
By default, LOOP is INFINITE, which means that the marquee loops endlessly.
Following code will LOOP 3 times and then it stops.
Example:
<marquee direction="left" LOOP=3 width="40%">Welcome to Arju's Blog</marquee>
effect is,

Welcome to Arju's Blog

Note that, if we use only LOOP attribute then content disappears after the last loop. If we want that the content will be visible after the looping is finished then we have to add BEHAVIOR SLIDE attribute like below.
Example:
<marquee direction="left" LOOP=3 behavior="slide" width="40%">Welcome to Arju's Blog</marquee>
effect is,

Welcome to Arju's Blog

8)BGCOLOR: It sets the background color of the MARQUEE.
Example:
<marquee direction="down" bgcolor=pink width="40%">Welcome to Arju's Blog</marquee>
effect is,

Welcome to Arju's Blog

9)HSPACE: HSPACE sets the horizontal space to the left and right of the marquee.
Following example shows the HSPACE by setting 30 and 50.

<MARQUEE HSPACE=30 WIDTH="40%" BGCOLOR=GREEN>
Welcome to
my blog
</MARQUEE>Next after HSPACE!

<MARQUEE HSPACE=50 WIDTH="40%" BGCOLOR=GREEN>
Welcome to
my blog
</MARQUEE>Next after HSPACE!
which looks like,

Welcome to
my blog

Next after HSPACE!

Welcome to
my blog

Next after HSPACE!

10)VSPACE: VSPACE sets the vertical space at the top and bottom of the marquee.
Following example demonstrate VSPACE by setting it 30 and 50.
Hi,
<MARQUEE VSPACE=30 WIDTH="40%" BGCOLOR=GREEN>
Welcome to my blog
</MARQUEE>Next after VSPACE!

Hi,
<MARQUEE VSPACE=50 WIDTH="40%" BGCOLOR=GREEN>
Welcome to my blog
</MARQUEE>Next after VSPACE!

which will look like,

Hi,

Welcome to my blog
Next after VSPACE!

Hi,

Welcome to my blog
Next after VSPACE!

The basic use of <MARQUEE ..> is simple. Put text between <MARQUEE ...> and </MARQUEE>.<MARQUEE ...> is a text level element. By default <MARQUEE ...> has a WIDTH of 100%, so it might appear as a block level. However, if you set the width to something smaller than 100%, you might notice that the marquee is in line with the surrounding text.

How to disable or remove blogger navigation bar

Before discussing about disable or removing tips let's have some idea about blogger navigation bar. Whenever you open any blog of blogspot by default you will see on the top of the post there is one bar by which you can search other blog, follow blog, share blog post, report abuse about objectionable content to the blogger, navigate to random next blog as well as from the right side of the bar you have sign in feature, create blog feature. If you login as blogger then on the right side of the bar you will see your email address, New Post, Customize, Dashboard, Sign Out menu there.

From following image it will be cleared what we meant by blogger navigation bar or navbar.
blogger navigation bar

Many ones want to remove that bar. There are many reasons behind it. May be they want to get rid of Report abuse / Flag blog feature. Whatever the reasons there is, in this post step by step I will show how we can remove or disable the navigation bar from your blog.

Step 01: Login to your blogger account from blogger.com and then click Layout on the blog that you want to disable the navigation bar.
If you already login to that blog you can simply click customize from the navigation bar.

Step 02: Under Layout menu there is Edit HTML. Click on it. You will get Edit Template box. It will look like,

Step 03: Add navbar css ID and make its height 0, visibility hidden, display none. That is adding following css codes inside your Edit HTML.
#navbar {
height: 0px;
visibility: hidden;
display: none;
}
After adding it will look like following,
body {
margin:0px;
padding:0px;
background:$bgcolor;
color:$textcolor;
font-size: small;
}

#navbar {
height: 0px;
visibility: hidden;
display: none;
}

#outer-wrapper {
font:$bodyfont;
}
Alternatively you can add simply following code.
#navbar-iframe {
display: none ! important ;
}
which will look like,
body {
margin:0px;
padding:0px;
background:$bgcolor;
color:$textcolor;
font-size: small;
}

#navbar-iframe {
display: none ! important ;
}

#outer-wrapper {
font:$bodyfont;
}
Either of the above code will work.

Step 04: Save the template and view the blog.
You are done.

Tips: Now from the blog you no longer will be able to see navigation bar and thus you will not find New post, Customize, Sign Out link. In order to see those you have to login to blogger.com and you need to maintain from there.

How to add different meta tags to different blogger blog posts

Well, sometimes you may think about your site meta tags, particularly you may want to add certain meta tags for different page for your websites. Whenever it comes to blog particually, blog posts of your blogger account you may wonder how to add metatags for different blog posts . As blogger blog engine is not open source so customization sometimes may be difficult and thus adding meta tags are difficult too.

Before looking into how to add meta tags there are some misconception presents regarding meta tags which need clarification. One of them is,

- "Does Google ever use the "keywords" meta tag in its search engine ranking"?
The answer is a big NO. Google never uses keywords meta tag for its search engine ranking. There are millions of websites containing meta tags with LEYWORDS. Google simply visit the site and ignore the meta tags. So simply "keywords" meta tags has no effect in google search engine ranking.

Another misconception present is,
- "Does Google completely ignores all metatags"?
The answer is NO. Though Google completely ignores "keywords" meta tag but it does not completely ignore the description meta tag. Google sometimes use the "description" meta tag as the text for the search results snippets which means it displays description part text while displaying the search results. It is like after we search for a word the page description text is displayed in the search results snippets. So it may attract user to click your link based on your attractive description meta tag.

Note that google do it sometimes but always remember that description meta tag has no effect in google search engine ranking.

Despite there is no search engine ranking effect by Google, still many ones like to add keywords and description meta tags for their site as well as for the blogger blog.
For the webpage the system is easy.
Within the
section you need to add META information like below.

<META NAME="Description" CONTENT="Blogger tips about adding metatag Information to a blog post.>

But for blogger post there is no shortcut ways. You need to follow following steps in order to add different meta tags to your different blogger blog posts.

Step 01: Sign in to Blogger dashboard » Layout » Edit html

How to know when googlebot last crawled my page

The word crawling means how often googlebot visit your webpage in order to Index your web page. The program that is responsible for fetching web page information is called googlebot. Googlebot also called as robot, bot or spider. Googlebot uses an algorithmic process to determine which sites to crawl, how often, and how many pages to fetch from each site.

The most important your page is, the most often googlebot visit your webpage. Now it is question how I am able to know when my page was last crawled by googlebot. There are several methods to do it.

Using Google Webmaster Tools
The first you need to setup google webmaster tools. In the post http://arjudba.blogspot.com/2009/07/how-to-setup-google-webmaster-tool-for.html it is discussed how to setup google webmaster tools.

After you setup webmaster tools login to your webmaster tools, click Site Configuration tab and then click Crawler access. On the right side under under Test robots.txt you can find before how many hours/minutes/days your site was last visited by crawler. Here is a screenshot for this blog from the google webmaster links.

Using Google Cached Links
Google takes a snapshot of each page as it crawls the web and caches these as a back-up in case the original page is unavailable.

In order to check when your page is cached just
1)Open www.google.com

2)Type your site address and click Google Search. Following image shows an example in case of my blog.
arju blog in google

3)You will see the search results like below.
search result for arju blog

4)If you click on the "Cached" link, you will see the web page as it looked when we indexed it. The cached content is the content Google uses to judge whether this page is a relevant match for your query. Following image shows the caching result from my blog.
cache page arju blog in google

When the cached page is displayed, it will have a header at the top which serves as a reminder that this is not necessarily the most recent version of the page. Terms that match your query are highlighted on the cached version to make it easier for you to see why your page is relevant. From the cache version you can easily check the date 29 Dec 2009 02:18:42 GMT. So homepage last cached in 29 Dec 2009 02:18:42 GMT.

Open a link in a new window or in a new tab using HTML Target

The tag defines an anchor. An anchor is used in a HTML document in order to create a link to another document, by using the href attribute.

Note that by default anchor tag shows following behaviour,
- An unvisited link is underlined and blue
- A visited link is underlined and purple
- An active link is underlined and red.

Following is an example of an anchor link.
href=
http://arjudba.blogspot.com/2009/11/affordable-search-engine-optimization.html>SEO packages

which will look like,
SEO packages

The named anchor itself doesn't have a hash mark. If you want to point to a certain part of a webpage you have to specify id of that document and then link to the named anchor with a hash mark. For example if we want to point to platinum package in the same post then we have to specify as,
href=
http://arjudba.blogspot.com/2009/11/affordable-search-engine-optimization.html#platinum>Platinum Package

which will look like,
Platinum Package

If you left click on these two hyper link you will see that both links are opened in the same window. But after clicking the link sometimes it may be useful to open window in a new window or in a new tab so that user don't leave the current window. We can achieve this by using TARGET.

Clicking on a link simply loads a new document in the same window where the link was. The TARGET keyword of anchor controls where the new document will be displayed when the user follows a link. With TARGET keyword, you can have the new document open in a new window, or if you are using frames, in another frame.

TARGET can have four predefined values.
1) "_blank"
2) "_parent"
3) "_self"
4) "_top"
Note that each value start with an underscore and are lowercase.

1)TARGET = "_blank": If you use TARGET="_blank" with the anchor tag then the new document opens in a new window while leaving the main window. Following is an example,
href=
http://arjudba.blogspot.com/2009/11/affordable-search-engine-optimization.html#platinum TARGET="_blank">Platinum Package

which behaves as,
Platinum Package

2)TARGET = "_parent": "_parent" is used in the situation where a frameset is nested inside another frameset. In that case you have both parent frameset and child frameset existed. By using TARGET=_parent causes a link in one of the child frameset documents uses "_parent" to load the new document.
If the current document's frameset file does not have any "parent", then "_parent" works exactly like "_top": the new document is loaded in the full window.

3)TARGET = "_self": TARGET="_self" puts the new document in the same window and frame as the current document. "_self" works the same as if you had not used TARGET at all.

4)TARGET = "_top": TARGET = "_top" loads the linked document in the topmost frame which means, the new page fills the entire window.

Another use of TARGET is TARGET = window name by which window name is used to put the linked document in a frame or window other than the frame the link is in.
